Baby Lucie’s Quilt/Blanket

Lucille Friday is here and so is her quilt/blanket! In case you are confused, any place that I previously referred to Baby Blanche well she arrived in the world on May 6th as a healthy baby named Lucie. Blanche was her in utero name. Here she is with her cable knit blanket-

I made her a quilt that feels more like a blanket because I used Minky Dot fabric on the back and did not add batting (middle layer) since she is a summer baby. I started on this back in March so had to dig through pictures to find the start. I used the In Color Order Giant Vintage Star Quilt tutorial to get started although I made my triangles smaller so it was a baby sized quilt. I started with Tula Pink’s Saltwater in coral and gray and then added more fabric from my stash.

I opted to not repeat any of the coral and pinks but have multiple grays.

The top came together fast once it was all laid out.

I hit a little bit of a wall then and just stared at the finished top (and a couple of other projects) for a month or two. I knew I wanted it to be soft but was nervous to use the Minky Dot fabric because I had heard how it is a pain and slippery and a mess. I jumped in anyway since I knew the end product would be great.

Quilting was easier than I thought although it won’t win any kinds of awards (the swirls/loops are a little messy). I like how you can see it but it also kind of blends in.

Captioning baby pictures as if they are talking is so fun. I’m so glad Lucie is here so the world can now get to know her.
